Academy of Art and Arabic Heritage's Choir

The Choral is one of the most important projects of the Academy of Art and Arabic Heritage, and is considered the first of its kind in Britain and Europe. It established in 2016 by the founders of the Academy, the iraqi artist Bassim Mehdi and the Iraqi director Zainab Al-Jauari, and with the leadership and training of Maestro Basel Salih.

The choir consists of about 50 members, both women and men, from all over the Arab world, who live in and around the capital, London.

In this lyrical project, the choir showcases the artistic and musical richness of the Arabic world.

diversity lies in various forms of dialects, rhythms, Maqamat, musical and lyrical templates.

This is to show the great diversity of the Arabic Maqams, which amount to 54 major musical Maqams, with more than 100 sub-and local musical Maqams, and an unlimited number of rhythms. This diversity came as a result of the succession of different civilizations in the Arab world, some of which are 7000 years old.

In our concert program, we present various Arabic and Andalusiyah maqamat and Muwashahat, classical songs, Qudud, poetry, Mawwal, Georgina, and Lami, as well as songs of the pentatonic scale, Rai, and Khaleeji arabic rhythm.

The Choral will also be presenting some new compositions that simulate the spirit of the intellectual and musical heritage of these civilizations.

We chose a bouquet of songs, and as we would say in Arabic, from every garden a flower is picked and from every flower comes a unique fragrance that carries many old and new stories, tales of love, nostalgia, joy, sadness longing and pride.
